SVP, Equity & InCLUSION

MidPen is seeking a highly emotionally intelligent, collaborative, people-centric thought leader who will center the principles of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging throughout all departments of the organization. As a member of the Stewardship Team, this person will lead the policies and practices as a touchstone for all decision-making.  Additionally, this person will provide leadership to the Collective Voices for Equity Council, a cross-functional group of 28 MidPenners, committed to advancing a culture of Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion and Equity (DEIB) at MidPen.

 

 

The position requires a deep understanding of systems of oppression, strong communications and project management skills, and an exceptional ability to build relationships across lines of difference, forge consensus, and resolve conflict. We strive to approach all work from a lens of Inclusion and Equity, and the person in this role must have a deep commitment to understanding, embracing and embedding DEIB principles, throughout the organization. 

 

 

This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The SVP-EI will play a critical role in transforming the culture and practices at MidPen to help realize our vision for a MidPen where:

  • Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging principles are embedded throughout the organization and within our culture;
  • We strengthen leadership by investing in education, learning and development
  • We practice our DEIB values in our daily work with residents and in community
  • Our Board and Staff reflect the diversity of the region we serve

Specific responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead implementation of MidPen’s Collective Voices for Equity (CVE) Strategic Framework for the organization by collaborating and fostering integration in programmatic and operational areas
  • Develop, track, and report out regularly on CVE metrics and outcomes, with the support of the SVP of HR, COO and Director of Data Analytics to create a dashboard and scorecard for our CVE Strategic Framework Partner to measure the effectiveness and impact of the Strategic 
  • Serve as a proactive critical advisor to CEO on emerging internal/external issues to improve our position and communication strategies (enabling us to have a more proactive view)
  • Coach and mentor leaders and human resources on DEIB issues and trends to advance everyone’s capability to own and lead in an environment where DEIB is integral to MidPen’s culture. Influence through educating and serve as a consultative change agent for the organization
  • Work closely with the HR, Operations, Resident Services, Property Management, Development, Finance and Asset Management teams to interrogate, revise and refine existing policies and practices with a DEIB lens
  • Work closely with Human Resources and MidPen’s CEO to expand representation in Board and Senior Leadership, to ensure MidPen’s senior leaders are reflective of the region we serve.
  • Work closely with Human Resources to ensure that we incorporate Diversity, Equity Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) principles in all personnel decisions including hiring, promotions, performance reviews and compensation.
  • Collaboratively support the Collective Voices for Equity Council in designing and implementing change initiatives that foster a culture of inclusion and drive engagement in CVE initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with MidPen’s Learning and Development Team to implement and refine training materials on racial equity and other aspects of DEIB, as well as collaborate with outside trainers and consultants as necessary
  • Collaborate with MidPen’s Communications Team to ensure visibility and input into MidPen’s DEIB work and drive engagement on this work with staff at all levels
  • Serve as primary Senior Management Team liaison with the Collective Voices for Equity Council and other groups of MidPenners focused on racial equity and inclusion

  • Looks for opportunities to create new partnerships and allows others to leverage existing partnerships.
  • Ability to design, track, analyze, and report key metrics related to racial equity, and inclusion in order to effectively gather staff and tenant feedback, and develop tailored strategies for advancing inclusion at MidPen, and measure and report on critical outcomes
  • Demonstrated understanding of systems of oppression, racial equity and inclusion
  • Is recognized by peers, leadership, and teams as having superior active listening skills and a collaborative approach to process improvements and change management.

EXPERIENCE

Successful candidates will possess the following:

  • At least five (5) years of relevant work experience, including at least three (3) years of experience working directly on design, management, and implementation of racial, equity, and inclusion related initiatives in the sector
  • Past experience leading initiatives to build equitable and healthy workplace cultures, including strategic planning, change management, project management, and facilitating internal dialogue
  • Being an experienced and visionary practitioner in leading transformative, organizational change focused on equity.
  • Being a leader who has a successful record of influence, leadership deploying effective programs, projects, campaigns, and initiatives, all related to race equity and intersections with other identities.
  • Success in mentoring and coaching team members, fueling their professional / personal growth as it relates to equity and inclusion.
  • Experience collaboratively designing and leading impactful training and learning and growth programs for employees.
